NFV-41 at ETSI headquarters - © ETSI
Sophia Antipolis, France

On Tuesday 11th March 2025 NEPHELE will be at the NFV#49 meeting in ETSI headquarters, Sophia Antipolis, France.

Panagiotis Papadimitriou from our partner University of Macedonia has been invited to present our project in that event. This meeting series joins together relevant people from the NFV community. The work done in NEPHELE about virtual objects is expected to be very relevant to this community.

Network functions virtualization (NFV) is a way to virtualize network services, such as routers, firewalls and load balancers that have traditionally been run on proprietary hardware. These services are packaged as virtual machines (VMs) on commodity hardware, which allows service providers to run their network on standard servers instead of proprietary ones. It is one of the primary components of a telco cloud, which is reshaping the telecommunications industry. With NFV, you don’t need to have dedicated hardware for each network function; NFV improves scalability and agility by allowing service providers to deliver new network services and applications on demand, without requiring additional hardware resources.

ETSI - the European Telecommunications Standards Institute - is proposing a NFV architecture which is helping to define standards for its implementation. Each component of the architecture is based on these standards for better stability and interoperability.
