Mobility session in the European Big Data Value Forum 2023

Dimitrios Spatharakis from the National Technical University of Athens presented NEPHELE in the workshop session "Mobility and Transportation: Evolving Value Chains and Market Dynamics in the Computing Continuum". The session explored the impact of Cloud-Edge-IoT applications on the transportation sector, covering topics such as autonomous vehicles, traffic management and green mobility.

The session was co-organized by aerOS, Nephele, EMERALDS and GREEN.DAT.AI projects together with the EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu initiative as a part of the European Big Data Value Forum 2023, organised by the Big Data Value Association, in collaboration with various academic and research institutions, and has been granted with the Spanish Presidency Auspice. 

The event was held in Feria Valencia, Room 4C (Valencia, Spain) and took place on October 25, 2023, from 09:30 to 11:00 am CEST.

The event was open to professionals and researchers interested in cloud, edge, IoT, and related topics, including Artificial Intelligence and ICT security and was particularly relevant for those involved in the transportation and mobility sectors. The transportation sector, with its diverse range of passenger and freight modes, offers a vast array of IT solutions, especially in the realm of Cloud-Edge-IoT applications. These applications span areas like transport networks, autonomous vehicles, traffic management, green mobility as a service, analytics as a service, data platfoms, logistics applications, fleet management, planning applications and more. 

This session featured presentations on various mobility use cases and solutions, followed by a panel discussion with industry and R&D experts. Key topics included the impact of research projects on the future of the Computing Continuum and the current industry challenges such as energy shortages.

Other speakers in the session were Ignacio Lacalle (Researcher at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia), Nikolaos- Foivos Galatoulas (Project manager/Research scientist at Inlecom Innovation), Carolin Zachäus (Innovation Consultant at VDI/VDE Innovation) and Despina Brasinika (Project Manager at Inlecom Innovation).
