MetaOS projects in IoT Tech Expo 2025 banner

NEPHELE was at the IoT Tech Expo 2025 that took place on 24-25 September 2025 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This event was coincident with the end of the project.

NEPHELE joined an exhibition booth with all the other sibling projects of the MetaOS ecosystem that received funding from the European Commission under the same topic: aerOS, FluidOS, ICOS, NEMO and NebulOuS. Videos and demos of the projects' use cases were exhibited in booth n.8 of this Expo.

NEPHELE also participated in the room sessions for the presentation of all this ecosystem and i all the projects. There was a session organised by the ecosystem that was entitled "The European MetaOS Landscape – An Operating System for the Edge". The following topics were covered:

  1. Ecosystem building and Open-source software artifacts from the Meta-OS projects: openness, modularity and extensibility
  2. Meta-OS core architecture and platform integration
  3. Edge-to-cloud federation in a secure and trusted way across the computing continuum
  4. IoT virtualization and convergence with edge/cloud and network management mechanisms in the computing continuum
  5. AI-driven optimisation, resource management and self-adaptation
  6. Real-world use cases and validation pilots - Unlocking Value: Meta-OS Use Cases, Pilots & Sustainability of results

IoT Tech Expo, a key part of TechEx Europe, is a very dynamic leading international exhibition and conference dedicated to showcasing the latest innovations in enterprise technology in IoT, Digital Twins & Enterprise Transformation, IoT Security, IoT Connectivity & Connected Devices, Smart Infrastructures & Automation, Data & Analytics and Edge Platforms. Attendees gained valuable insights through real-world use cases and expert discussions, making it an essential experience for industry professionals.

The IoT Tech Expo 2025 in Amsterdam represents one of the most relevant events in Europe for engaging with the IoT, cloud-edge, and distributed computing ecosystem. This premier conference offered a strategic platform for leading European research and innovation projects to showcase groundbreaking developments, foster collaboration, and connect with key industrial stakeholders.

A strong collective presence of next-generation Meta-Operating System (Meta-OS) initiatives was featured at the event, including aerOS, NebulOuS, ICOS, NEPHELE, FLUIDOS, and NEMO. These Horizon Europe projects has been shaping the future of smart systems and IoT applications across verticals such as manufacturing, mobility, energy, smart buildings, agriculture, and media.

  • aerOS presented impactful results around its open-source Meta-OS, which is being leveraged by major European industry players (e.g., Siemens, John Deere, ELECTRUM, OTE, EGCTL). The project highlights included an innovative federation and orchestration approach, which transfers well to real-world concerns such as vehicle or robots swarms in agriculture or manufacturing (among others) and the growth of a vibrant innovation ecosystem through cascade funding and cross-sector adoption.

  • NebulOuS showcased its innovative Meta-Operating System designed to broker hyper-distributed applications across the cloud-edge continuum. With a strong focus on fog orchestration and cloud interoperability, the project highlighted advancements made through its Open Call pilots and demonstrated its contributions to AI-driven, adaptive resource management.

  • ICOS presented its open, modular, and interoperable framework for enhancing trust, resilience, and performance in heterogeneous infrastructures. Through its open-source toolbox and engagement in standardization, ICOS is enabling sustainable orchestration for edge-to-cloud applications across sectors like smart cities, automotive, and energy.

  • NEPHELE demonstrated its innovations, including Virtual Object Stack (VOStack), an open-source software stack that supports the virtualization of IoT devices and the development of Digital Twins, and its synergetic meta-orchestration platform for managing deployments of distributed applications across compute and network resources in the computing continuum.

  • FLUIDOS highlighted its flexible, decentralized, and secure Meta-OS architecture that orchestrates resources and workloads seamlessly across heterogeneous infrastructures. It shared outcomes from its Technology Extension and Use Case Open Calls, reinforcing its mission of creating scalable, energy-efficient, and intelligent distributed systems.

  • NEMO showcased its cybersecure, modular Meta-OS and its efforts in enabling AI-as-a-Service for smart resource management. Validated across multiple verticals—including smart farming, energy, industry, and media—NEMO aimed to provide a seamless AIoT-edge-cloud continuum and dynamic micro-service orchestration.

Together, these initiatives represented a unified commitment to open-source innovation, European technological sovereignty, and the advancement of edge-to-cloud intelligence. The IoT Tech Expo Amsterdam 2025 offered an unmatched opportunity for these projects to increase visibility, foster collaboration, and accelerate adoption of their results in real-world environments.
