Workshop on Cross-Domain Standardisation and Architecture for Edge Computing
Brussels, Belgium

Our colleague Dave Raggett (W3C) was invited by Rolf Riemenschneider (DG Connect) to talk about cross-sector standardisation on the "Workshop on Cross-Domain standardisation and architecture for IoT and edge computing" that took place on 26-27 November in Brussels. Dave also took part on a panel about scaling up standards from pilots to international actions.

Our technical coordinator Anastasios Zafeiropoulos (NTUA) represented our project too in a panel about standardisation strategies from the EU CEI also on this event, on 27th November.

This workshop, organized by the European Commission in partnership with CEI Sphere and INSTAR, aimed to identify and address gaps in standardization across various domains and industry stakeholders. It tackled key questions about international standardization activities and the EU’s role in them, encouraged collaboration between ongoing IoT and edge computing projects, and facilitated brainstorming for future roadmaps. The goal was to foster a unified approach to standardization at the international level by working with relevant global entities to create standards for emerging technologies.

Key standardization committees and initiatives, such as ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41 (SC41) and SAREF led discussions, focusing on speeding up and streamlining standardization efforts across projects.
