Welcome to the Ultrasound Scanner Dematerialization Platform, the Use Case 4 of NEPHELE, a European innovation project redefining how we handle hybrid infrastructures. It enables seamless deployment and management of distributed software stacks across cloud, edge, and device layers. Traditional bulky machines, fully self-contained with all functionalities built directly into the equipment, operate reliably without any need for an internet connection. These are now being transformed into lightweight, distributed, software-defined platforms, unlocking the power of medical imaging anywhere, anytime. This innovative setup includes a minimal hardware and software stack on the IoT side, facilitating efficient data capture and device interfacing. Complementing this, there are two web applications:

  • A dashboard for remote control of the ultrasound equipment.
  • A viewer for real-time remote visualization of the ultrasound exam, ensuring seamless access and monitoring from virtually anywhere.

Ultrasound data can be shared in real time with specialists for remote support, including system maintenance, hands-on training, and interactive tutorials. This capability also expands opportunities for medical education by enabling students and professionals to observe and learn from actual cases regardless of their location. The ultrasound dematerialization represents a major evolution of the NEPHELE-based healthcare platform, poised to transform access in rural and hard-to-reach locations. NEPHELE is a foundation for the future of digital healthcare by enabling flexible distributed computing. It brings critical services closer to the people who need them most, anywhere. Powered by NEPHELE, Use Case 4 unlocks a new frontier in intelligent, decentralized care, shaping tomorrow's health systems with innovation and purpose.
